1. You will spend too much time researching.
Yes, there is such a thing. Style Me Pretty may become your browser’s default site, and you will find Pinterest to be both the best thing in the world and also your worst enemy. I can DIY my centerpieces, create the table numbers, and put together confetti cones for everyone the night before the wedding, right? (No.)
2. You will learn new things about each other.
When we started the wedding planning process, T and I sat down and told each other what we thought should be the most important parts of our wedding: Â Basically, a very watered down vision of the weekend. I had no idea that pancakes for breakfast the day of was a non-negotiable for my fiance, and I’m sure he was surprised to hear that our flower budget would definitely be more than $200.
3. Your wedding dress probably won’t make you cry.
Your mom is a different story (the waterworks the first time you put on a dress and veil are intense), but you may not have a moment where you get all teary-eyed and blissfully say, “YES!” to that dress. (The shows lie.)

4. Your new best friend will be Google Docs.
Shared spreadsheets with your parents for budget items, with your bridesmaids for who should be invited to the bridal shower and their addresses, with your fiance for who is responsible for what… And at the end, you will come out knowing new Excel tricks because it’s so much easier to do a VLOOKUP to count guests than adding them up yourself.
5. At some point, you will want to elope.
At a point (or two or five) during the process, you will turn to your fiance (or, in our case, he will interrupt a freak-out moment over your gold pen running out of ink mid-addressing) and suggest that you lose the deposit and go somewhere magical, just the two of you. You may just be expressing how frustrated you are at something specific, but a little piece of you will come back to this thought a few times, especially when you realize how many details about the reception fall on your plate. (I have to bring my own priest to the church? Seriously?)
I am hoping that #6 will be “… And it will all be worth it”, but you will have to wait until September!
