For our grand European vacation, we planned to rent cars with car seats in some spots and take public transit in others. We didn’t think we would need to bring any car seats with us. But then plans changed and we were going to be taking an Uber in the late evening to the airport, and I wanted safe seats for the kids. I also wasn’t sure what the rented seats would be like and worried we might need to bring our own.
I bought the Mifold with my own money, but if you do purchase using my links I may make a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thank you for supporting my small business!
On a frantic search the day before our trip, I found the Mifold Comfort booster seat. It’s not so much of a booster as it is a seat belt positioner, and it looked like it would be amazing for my almost-5 year old who still normally rides in a 5-point harness.
After using it for a week straight, in and out of rental cars and taxis, I can honestly say this travel booster is incredible! (This isn’t at all a sponsored post, by the way- I literally panic ordered this and am so so glad I did.)

Pros of the Mifold Comfort seatbelt positioned:
- Versatile: It hooks onto the seat belt, so whether you are riding in a car in America or London (where seat belts are on the opposite side), you can configure it how you want
- It takes NO TIME to set it up- literally 2 seconds and you’re done
- Compact, portable design: It’s so small, you could pack it in your child’s backpack for school if they’re going to a friend’s house, so they always have a safe car seat
Cons of the Mifold booster seat:
- My son has a hard time unbuckling himself because you have to unlatch the seat belt from the hook before the child can get out (though maybe that’s a good thing?)
- Not necessarily a great replacement for a 5-point harness, which is the safest seat you can ride in
- The child isn’t boosted up so they don’t see a lot out the window like they might in their normal car seat
- Mifold is NOT FAA-approved for in-flight use since it requires a lap-and-shoulder belt (planes only have lap belts).
How to fold and store the travel booster seat
- Push the side guides inward to retract them.
- Fold the seat flat.
- Store it in a bag or compartment for easy access.

How to use the Mifold travel booster seat
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use it safely and correctly:
Unfold the Mifold booster seat:
- Pull out the side lap belt guides (wings) until they lock in place.
- The seat should lay flat on the vehicle seat.
Place the Mifold on the vehicle seat:
- Position it flat on the car’s back seat, flush against the seat back.
- The child should sit on it with their back straight.
Adjust the width:
- Move the lap belt guides so they are just wider than the child’s hips.
- Click to lock them in place.
Feed the seatbelt through the guides:
- Thread the lap portion of the vehicle seatbelt under both lap belt guides.
- The belt should lie snugly across the top of the child’s thighs, not their stomach.
Use the shoulder belt clip:
- Clip the red shoulder belt guide onto the seatbelt (behind the child).
- Adjust the strap so the shoulder belt rests midway between the child’s shoulder and neck.
Check positioning:
- The seatbelt should fit the same as it would on an adult: lap belt across upper thighs, shoulder belt across the chest and shoulder.
Other things to keep in mind
Just like with any car seat or other baby gear/kids gear…
- Do not use Mifold if your child does not meet the minimum size requirements. Mifold is generally designed for children aged 4 and up, weighing between 40–100 lbs (18–45 kg), and up to 59 inches (150 cm) tall.
- Replace the Mifold after a car accident or if it shows signs of damage.
And always double-check that the seatbelt is routed correctly.
So is the Mifold a good travel car seat, and am I glad I bought it?
100%. I’ve thought about getting a second when my youngest is old enough. This is such a smart product!
