Travel Sound Machine Hatch Rest Go vs. SlumberPod SlumberCalm

As a parent of three little ones—ages 2, 4, and 7—sleep is a big deal in our house. Whether we’re at home or traveling, a consistent sleep routine is key to avoiding cranky mornings (for both the kids and me). One tool that’s become absolutely essential? A good travel sound machine. We travel frequently with our kids, and starting when they’re itty bitty! Our oldest’s first cross country flight was at 6 months, our middle went on a (non flying) beach vacation at 4 weeks, and our youngest went on a beach vacation at 6 weeks!

Hatch vs. SlumberPod: Which Travel Sound Machine Is Best for Kids? A Parent’s Honest Review

Over the years, I’ve tried quite a few, but two brands have stood out: Hatch and SlumberPod. Each has its pros and cons, and after using both on road trips and hotel stays (and stroller walks), I wanted to share a real-life comparison for other parents in the same boat (or minivan).

Why We Use a Travel Sound Machine

Before I get into the comparison, let me say this: if you don’t already use a sound machine while traveling with kids, you’re missing out. They help block out noisy hotel neighbors, unfamiliar sounds in a new environment, and even just the noises of other family members being in the same sleeping space. One of my biggest travel must-haves? A reliable travel sound machine.

I wanted to test out the latest in travel sound machines so I picked up the Hatch Rest Go and SlumberPod SlumberCalm. We have those brands’ larger sound machines at home so I thought the travel versions made sense for us. These are NOT just sound machines for babies and kids. You can definitely use either of these sound machines for adults! If you’re looking for a sound machine for infants, my favorite is this one.

Here’s my take on these two popular sound machines.

What’s similar between the Hatch and SlumberPod travel sound machines?

  • Both are compact and lightweight, and perfect for travel. They are portable and designed to hook onto a diaper bag or stroller, or can easily be thrown in a bag to take with you.
  • Both have a rechargeable battery.

Hatch Rest Go Travel Sound Machine Review

Pros:

  • Compact and Rechargeable: The Hatch Rest Go is designed for travel. It’s lightweight and rechargeable via USB-C, which is a huge win for packing light. Its battery lasts up to 15 hours.
  • Multiple Sound Options: You get a wide variety of sound choices, like white noise, ocean waves, wind, even lullabies. There’s even a heartbeat sound for younger babies.
  • App-Controlled: This is great when I want to quietly adjust the volume or change the sound without walking into the room.
  • Cute Design: It comes in fun colors and has a sleek, modern look that doesn’t scream “baby gear.”

Cons:

  • App Dependency: If you don’t like managing everything through an app, this might bug you. There is really only one button on this machine, so the app controls everything (or you just push that one button a bunch of times).
  • Battery Life: It lasts a night, but I usually have to charge it daily. Not a huge issue, but worth noting for places with limited power access.

SlumberPod SlumberCalm Travel Sound Machine Review

Pros:

  • Super Portable: It’s palm-sized and incredibly lightweight—easily clips to a stroller, car seat, or Pack ‘n Play.
  • Rechargeable Battery: Lasts around 10 hours per charge, which is great for overnight use.
  • Simple Operation: Buttons for each of the sound options, an amber light (nightlight), off/on, and volume. No app, no fuss. It’s easier to use in my opinion. You can see the different buttons for the different functions, vs the Hatch sound machine for travel which only has the one large button that you have to press over and over to get to what you want (if you aren’t using the app).
  • Budget-Friendly: It’s generally more affordable than the Hatch, and still feels high-quality.
  • Sound options: 21 different sound options, including multiple white noise, brown noise, pink noise choices and more.

Cons:

  • Manual Only: No remote control, no app, no auto-off features… just good old-fashioned buttons.

Final Verdict: Hatch Rest Go vs. SlumberPod SlumberCalm for Travel

Both the Hatch Rest Go and the SlumberPod SlumberCalm sound machines are great choices! It really depends on your family’s needs.

If your priority is variety, flexibility, and app control, go with the Hatch. If you want simplicity, durability, and something that fits seamlessly into your SlumberPod setup, the SlumberPod model won’t let you down.

Either way, your kids (and you!) will sleep better, and that means a much happier trip for everyone.
