After reading an article about the dangers of Teflon and other toxic materials in pans, I invested in a Caraway pan with a lid. We have now been using it for over a year! I thought it was finally time to share my thoughts on the Caraway pan and whether it’s worth the price. I went looking for other Caraway cookware reviews and didn’t find too many. Hopefully my review is helpful if you’re considering non-toxic nonstick pans like Caraway or Greenpan! (I’m also working on a review of my Greenpan nonstick frying pan- coming soon!)
Basics of ceramic vs. other non stick materials
If you’ve ever had a pan that flakes little black or gray particles, you should think about replacing your cookware. I didn’t think twice about using a nonstick pan that had scratches in it until I realized that my scrambled eggs had tiny pieces of that nonstick material in them. I threw away my breakfast (and the pan) and started looking into other options.
What’s so special about Caraway?
Caraway pans are one of those very-talked-about products in the influencer world. But it’s for good reason! Not only are Caraway pans nontoxic (they’re made of ceramic), but they work on all types of cooktops. We recently upgraded from an electric stove to an induction cooktop, and I was so happy that my favorite Caraway pan worked so I could keep it. Ceramic is a mineral-based coating so it doesn’t spread toxins into your food when it reaches high temps. (Unlike Teflon, the typical nonstick coating you find, which can leach toxins into your food once reaching 500 degrees or higher.)

Pros of Caraway Pans
Easy to clean
I can’t even tell you how much easier these pans are to clean than the other pans I have. I find myself reaching for my Caraway pan most! I don’t use a lot of oil or butter when cooking, and even the toughest cooked-on foods come off so easily. I read some comments on Reddit that people weren’t having a great experience with the “easy to clean” part. I think part of the issue is if you use super high heat on your food and constantly burn the food on the pan (and then don’t clean it properly), you’ll have a problem with the burned food burning onto the already burned food. If that makes sense? The other thing you need to know about taking care of these pans is that you shouldn’t scrape them with metal spatulas. I use these silicone spatulas and haven’t had any issue with cleaning or the nonstick part either.
Nontoxic and made of ceramic
I already explained this above, but the ceramic material doesn’t let toxins into your food when it reaches high temperatures.
Works on all types of cooktops
I was able to take this from our electric range and use on our new induction stovetop!
Beautiful in the kitchen!
I chose a navy blue to go with the rest of my kitchen, and it’s just such a pretty pan to use! They make pans with silver or gold handles and in a variety of shades, from green and blue to yellow, white, black, cream, and more.
Cons of Caraway pans
Where to find them
When I bought my first Caraway pan, you couldn’t get them in an actual store, so I wasn’t able to see it in person first. That was a con to me (but not enough that I didn’t just order!). It looks like now you can get them at Crate & Barrel and some other large retailers like Amazon, as well as on the Caraway site.
The handles get really hot
This is a problem with my cast iron pans, too. I just keep an oven mitt in the drawer next to my stovetop so when I’m cooking I can easily grab it and move the pan around, but it’s good to know if you aren’t used to the handles being hot! On my saute pan, the long handle doesn’t get hot, but the small one on the other side does. And when I’m cooking for a while with the lid on, the lid handle can get warm as well.
Is Caraway worth the price?
I wasn’t sure if I’d like Caraway pans, so I didn’t invest right away in the Caraway cookware set. But I kind of wish I had! I bought the lidded Caraway saute pan at the same time as the Greenpan frying pan I have.
Final thoughts on Caraway pans
In conclusion, after a year of using my Caraway pan, I can confidently say that it’s been a fantastic addition to my kitchen. The non-toxic ceramic coating, easy cleanup, and versatility on different cooktops have made it my go-to pan for everyday cooking. While it’s a bit of an investment, the peace of mind knowing that I’m cooking with a non-toxic, durable option makes it worth the price in my opinion. Despite a couple of minor downsides like the hot handles, I think the pros far outweigh the cons. If you’re considering making the switch to a healthier, high-performing nonstick pan, Caraway is definitely worth considering. Stay tuned for my upcoming review of my Greenpan frying pan for another option in the non-toxic cookware space!
