DIY Gift Idea: Chocolate Cocoa Spoons

easy DIY winter gift: chocolate spoons for cocoa
Each year I try to include at least one handmade gift in my Christmas giftables. I find it to be so much more personal than buying everything, and it also is a fun project for those cold, snowy evenings when I have zero desire to be outside! As pretty as the snow is, New England winters can be rough.
I was rummaging around in my kitchen to see what I could make as an easy giftable that wouldn’t take too much time, and I came up with chocolate dipped spoons for cocoa. This is the perfect gift for a boss, teacher, dog walker, mother in law… the list goes on. All you need are plastic spoons (the silver-looking ones would be great, too!), a dark chocolate bar, and vegetable oil.

Melt the chocolate bar in a microwave-safe container, adding two tablespoons of vegetable oil to increase the smoothness. (You can also melt the chocolate over the stove using a pot of boiling water and then another container in that pot that holds the chocolate, but I find the microwave to be a lot easier.)
Once the chocolate is smooth enough, dip your spoons in, covering the front and back. Rest on wax paper, then drizzle more chocolate on top of each spoon. Leave in the refrigerator overnight (until hardened).
Wrap in plastic bags (I used these) and tie with festive ribbon. Then place a few in a colorful mug and tie on a pretty tag. Voila! Gift ready.

This is such a cute idea. I love giving hand made, thoughtful, gifts for Christmas. This would be the perfect one. I could also wrap up some homemade marshmallows and a mason jar full of hot cocoa mix. Perfection. Thanks 🙂
