Before our trip to Europe I was looking for the absolute best travel stroller. I wanted something that was light, have a one-hand fold (that I could fold with one hand easily), and could fit in the overhead on the plane. But it also had to be sturdy enough to not fall over when my youngest climbs in. And obviously I needed a good size storage compartment!
I started searching for the smallest travel stroller but then realized I probably needed something with a sturdier frame. I narrowed it down to a couple of options but ultimately went with the Ergobaby Metro, which kept coming up in my search – and we LOVE it as our travel stroller!

I ended up getting the Ergobaby Metro Plus from REBEL specifically for our 3 week European vacation. Since we have now taken it to three different countries and on multiple airline flights, I wanted to share our experience with this stroller. Here is my Metro+ stroller review!
The Ergobaby Metro stroller is a popular choice for parents on the go
When I was researching travel strollers with a one hand fold, the Ergobaby Metro kept coming up. I was between the Metro stroller and the Yoyo, and honestly I’m glad I went with the Metro+! I’m not sure if it’s available in Europe – we saw the Yoyo everywhere. But if it isn’t available right now in Europe, I hope it will be soon! The one hand fold is a must for me – and many other parents who are busy and always have their hands full.
Does the Ergobaby Metro stroller fit easily into the overhead bin?
We have taken the Ergobaby Metro Plus on a few different airlines, and it fit in the overhead bin on all of them so far. It weighs 17 lbs which I can lift up above my head to get into (and out of) the bin. I also appreciate that it’s narrow enough that you can wheel it right onto the plane. It’s tight, but as long as everyone keeps their hands and legs in, you’re good to go. Here we are boarding our flight to London over the summer:

By the way, if your little one is still in a car seat with a 5-point harness (like my youngest), you might want to know about the car seat we love to travel with and a more affordable car seat for travel). If you have a child in a baby car seat, you may want to know if the Doona infant car seat stroller is worth buying.

Pros and cons of the Ergobaby Metro+ stroller
Pros
- Good canopy coverage with a peekaboo window
- Flat recline seat and adjustable foot rest makes naps on the go easier
- Good size storage basket for a travel stroller
- Light to lift
- Maneuverability is great
- Easy one handed fold
- Padded seat makes it a comfortable ride
- Can use from newborn up to almost 50 lbs
- Adjustable handlebar for parents of different heights
- Fits right on the plane and can be pushed down the aisle between the seats (on most large planes! We couldn’t do this on the smaller Air Corsica plane we took, unfortunately)
- Has adapters like an optional rider board and car seat adapter
Cons
- Doesn’t have large wheels like our other favorite everyday stroller, so cobblestones are a bumpier ride
- The one handed fold can be more difficult if you have to unlatch first. Just takes a little practice but worth noting
Is the Ergobaby Metro stroller good for travel?
Here’s how the Metro+ performs specifically for travel, and which travel styles it’s best suited for.
Best for you if your travel includes:
- Flying with gates, international or domestic flights, where having a stroller that fits in overhead bins or at least can be efficiently checked or carried is important.
- Urban travel (pavement, sidewalks, smoother surfaces) rather than rough off-road terrain. (It’s not great on sand, for example.) We love this brand for a stroller that can handle off-road terrain.
- Situations where having a recline, padding, and comfort for the child matters (long walks, naps, etc).
- Families who don’t want a full-size stroller but want something more substantial than the smallest or lightest umbrella strollers.
Less ideal for you if your travel includes:
- Rough terrain (strict cobblestones, gravel, sand) where big wheels and more rugged suspension help more.
- Traveling with lots of gear — the smaller basket and accessory needs might make it tricky if you need to lug many things in the stroller.
- Needing more than one stroller seat. There is no double configuration with this stroller, so you’d need to bring multiple strollers if you need 2 seats.
Overall, I found this stroller to be very easy to travel with. It is the best compact travel stroller we use. It has become my favorite everyday stroller for in and out of the car, and for taking with us on trips.
Does the Metro stroller fold one-handed?
Yes! The Metro 3, Metro+, and other Ergobaby Metro stroller versions fold one handed. The only issue for us is that the carry strap on our stroller came undone (and I have yet to put it back), but that just means we fold it one handed and then carry it by the frame vs. the carry strap.
