Go-to Baby Shower Gifts

Is anyone else filling up the fridge surface with baby shower invitations? I definitely see now what my coworkers were saying when they told me to give it a few years and we would have a wave of weddings followed by a wave of babies. A couple of years ago when we had 9 weddings in a row – yeah, that must have been the first wave they were talking about 😉

I always purchase items off of a couple’s registry (because, duh, registries were created so people could tell you exactly what they want!), but I tend to throw in a personal item or two. And I actually kind of love when shower invitations ask you to bring a book instead of a card, because I like to give books, anyway!

What nursery doesn’t need adorable picture books with great stories? (And what mom wants to read the same story over and over?) T and I both clearly remember having favorites as kids, so I like to gift those to the next generation. Our favorites: Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel – Corduroy – The Mitten – Make Way for Ducklings (a Boston favorite!)
If it’s someone we went to college with, you can bet there will be something in their gift related to one of our alma maters (like this BC onesie or PC bib). And regardless of where they live or who they root for, it’s almost a guarantee that some sort of Pats gear will appear, too.
When the registry is nearly all fulfilled, I go for this baby briefcase, which was recommended to me years ago when a new mom was telling me how many papers they had to keep track of (on very little sleep) after their new baby’s arrival.
Do you have a go-to baby shower gift?
