I missed the first drop of Hill House Swim before everything sold out (I wanted the pink) and so when the navy blue dropped I jumped in! I heard some great reviews and wanted to try out both the one piece and two piece options for myself. Here are my honest thoughts on the swim options from the maker of the Nap Dress.
Hill House Swim Review
Overall thoughts
I love the look of this swimsuit. It’s has a “put together” vibe while being functional. You can tell a lot of thought went into these swim pieces. They have little details that you know the makers worked to get right: The tiers on the skirt, the ruffle on the sleeves. The ruffles stand up just perfectly, and while I haven’t taken this into the water, I’ve heard that they hold their shape. The pieces are nice, the details pretty, and the fabric feels lovely.
The Hill House swimsuits are made from a thick, smooth fabric. It’s double layered and thick enough to not show anything, even without any padding or extra lining. It feels almost like neoprene vs. the econyl® fabric (according to the website- 78% Recycled Polyamide, 22% Elastane) it actually is.
SIZING + FIT: Obviously the pieces will fit differently on everyone. I’m 5’8″ and a true medium, so I ordered a medium in each piece. They fit well on my body, though with a longer torso I don’t think the one piece is long enough (more on that below).
The one piece
Both the one piece and two piece have the famous ruffle sleeve that the nap dresses have. The ruffle pretty much MAKES the swimsuit.
SIZING + FIT NOTES: I’m 5’8” and have a long torso, and I found that the one piece ($125) felt short on me. It fit everywhere else, so it might just not be great for longer bodies. The back was cheekier than I would have liked. It seemed fine at first but the more I moved, the more it became a problem. Being a mom, I know I’m going to be chasing little ones on the beach, and too cheeky just doesn’t work for my beach lifestyle.
The two piece
Isla Swim Top | Lola Swim Bottom | Pool Skirt
Again, that famous ruffle sleeve makes the suit! Others have said that the top ($75) squished down in odd places but I felt it to be comfortable and cute. It has a sportier fit than other swimsuits I own. There isn’t any padding- just the lining of the thick fabric.
SIZING + FIT NOTES: The bottoms ($55) are high waisted and made from the same quality-feeling fabric. At first they feel like moderate coverage but any movement creates a much more cheeky situation.
The pool skirt ($70) is a really cute alternative to the typical swim bottoms. They have a bikini bottom attached inside, so you don’t need separate bottoms with the skirt. The skirt feels like a really nice length, and you could wear it easily with a t-shirt and sneakers to the beach and skip having to put shorts or something else on top of your swimsuit.
In all, I think the swimsuits look a lot better in pictures than I thought they looked in the mirror. I think they look so cute on so many people, but I’m not 100% that they’re right for me. What do you think- keep or return?
