When I last updated on our home renovation, the new addition was framed, the electrical and plumbing were done, and the doors and siding were on.
What I didn’t share is that’s when I started to get homesick.
It’s a weird feeling, living between two homes, neither of which are ours. Every time I drive up our street I get excited to go home, even if it’s just for an hour.
We have now been out of our house since June 4, so a total of 2 months and 2 weeks. While the renovation feels like it is starting to move faster, the reality is that we still have at least a month and a half to go before we can really go “home”.
In the meantime, we have been traveling a bit, mostly within New England. We spent some time on Cape Cod, per usual, had a Harvard Square staycation, and then we spent a really nice week in Maine.
I’m trying not to focus on NOT being at home. Instead, I’m putting my excess energy into picking out tile, light fixtures, and paint colors. (We knew we would have to make decisions related to the renovation, but I didn’t realize just how many decisions there are.) I want to make our house beautiful and functional, but at some point it’s like …. just HOW different are the three slabs of quartz I picked for the kitchen that are all essentially the same. Hah!
Btw, I loved how many of you loved this pebble floor when I shared it on Instagram. I was second guessing, but 90% of you said go for it!
I do plan to share lots of details, room by room, in the future. For now, though, here’s what most of the house looks like…

so weird to think that this room didn’t exist 2 months ago! ^
A lot has happened this summer, and not just with the house. I’ll share more later, I’m sure, but for now I will just say… I cannot wait to get back home!
