IKEA Outdoor Furniture Review + What You Need to Know Before Buying

I always love looking at IKEA furniture hacks, but I had a hard time finding outdoor IKEA furniture reviews, so that’s why I decided to write my own here! When I went to replace our outdoor furniture, I looked for what felt like FOREVER before buying these outdoor chaise lounges from IKEA and the matching side tables. I didn’t realize that IKEA made outdoor furniture, but I’m glad they do! (They also make patio furniture.) It seemed like every piece of furniture I liked elsewhere was going to cost us thousands of dollars, and I didn’t want to splurge on furniture that would stay outside all year.

We live in New England, where temperatures can be in the 90s during the summer but in the teens during the winter. We don’t have indoor storage space big enough for these chaises, so they stay outside all year round, through the rain and snow as well as the heat waves. Read on for my review of these outdoor pieces from IKEA.

Our Outdoor Furniture from IKEA

The pros of these IKEA outdoor lounges:

  • Delivery was fast (though you do have to pay for delivery, as these items are large and come on a truck)
  • Assembly was easy
  • I was able to find the perfect cushions to go with them
  • They hold up really well!
  • They look really nice by the pool. No one believed me when I said they were from IKEA!

The cons:

  • You have to pay for delivery or drive to IKEA and pick them up yourself (which, for me, is an hour trip each way)
  • The boxes are heavy
  • The chaises are heavy to move but do have wheels on them which makes it a bit easier
  • You need to have a large storage space or be okay with these staying outdoors all year

Assembling the IKEA outdoor furniture

These chaise loungers were the easiest furniture item to put together. (Far easier than our other IKEA furniture!) They came in large boxes that were heavy to move. The assembly was really easy: the chair piece came together, and we just had to add on the 4 legs and the wheels. So simple!

Outdoor cushions for chaise lounges

The outdoor chaise furniture cushions are from Target. I bought literally 5 different ones before I settled on these. They’re comfortable and have held up really well! Unfortunately they sell out pretty fast at the beginning of the summer, and then they aren’t restocked heading into the fall because they’re a seasonal item. Before buying these, I found some nice ones at Home Goods, but they never had four of the same kind. Amazon has a ton of options for cushions, too!

And now, some FAQs about our IKEA outdoor furniture

Does the IKEA outdoor furniture hold up well outside? You can definitely see a huge difference between the furniture we covered all winter (the chaises) and the furniture we left out (the tables), mostly in the stain color. These chaises are made from solid acacia wood. The tables also warped a little bit, where I’m guessing they were covered in snow and ice for some of the winter.

We cover the chaises in the winter months, and I highly recommend getting the chaise covers from IKEA. They’re easy enough to put on and take off, and look at the difference it makes in the wood!

Do these chaise lounges come in other colors? They don’t. It’s just this color stain and then you can choose if you want the IKEA cushions or not.

Is IKEA furniture good? In general, we’ve been happy with our IKEA purchases. I noticed that the prices are starting to creep up so that you’re not getting as good of a deal as in past years. But that said, you can still find some gems on the IKEA site! I like the look of their upholstered bed (which is a fraction of the cost at other retailers). This natural fiber (rattan?) nightstand doesn’t look like IKEA (I mean that in a good way!). And I have my eye on this bed for my son’s room because it resembles a Pottery Barn Kids bed (but, again, at a fraction of the cost).
