I’m not going to call this cheap baby gear because the quality is anything but cheap! But if you’re looking for affordable baby gear that will help you in those very precious days, here’s a list of what you need to know about. From an affordable bassinet to a life changing (seriously!) baby app for better sleep, these are my favorites!
Why should you care about my favorite baby gear? I’m a mom of 3, so I’ve used a fair amount of baby gear. From car seats to strollers to high chairs and more, I’ve tried different brands and test drive new gear frequently. I also like nice things. So you can be sure that I’m not going to steer you toward baby gear that is cheaply made or could be dangerous!
The Best Inexpensive Baby Gear For Sleep
The Baby Shusher app is $4 and every parent needs it. It’s like magic! If you don’t want to rely on your phone/an app, you can buy the actual Baby Shusher item that you can carry around with you.
This bassinet is one of my favorite affordable baby buys. It’s perfect for the first 4 months (or until the baby starts to roll/doesn’t need to be swaddled anymore). We used it on our first floor so we had a safe place to put the baby out of reach of any pets or big siblings when she was tiny.
Affordable Baby Gear For Eating
We have had a few different high chairs, and my favorite is this hook-on high chair for home. It hooks right onto any table without an edge underneath, which makes it great for on the go (restaurants or rental houses!).
We also really like this booster chair for traveling, as well as this pop up chair, which is perfect for the beach, a picnic, or any other outdoor activity.
We always bring disposable place mats with us when we go out to eat. It’s a clean surface for the baby to put food on, and it sticks on the table. I put them slightly closer to the baby so that I can wrap it over the table’s edge and stick underneath. I don’t know if you’ve ever wiped down the edges of a restaurant table, but…. trust me when I say you should bring these! They’re great for older babies and toddlers, too.
Inexpensive Baby Gear For Travel
This is one of my biggest mom tips, but it’s also an affordable baby item. ALWAYS keep a wet bag with you. You never know when there’s going to be a blow out and you need somewhere to put the clothes!
Our favorite car seat for travel is around $60, which is an insane price for a car seat that has fared well in crash tests (according to Consumer Reports). We have used it on long-haul flights (12 hours), in rental cars, and even in grandma’s car back at home. It doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles to it, but it’s safe and affordable and meets FAA requirements for flying with a car seat.
If you’re interested in getting a wagon, I highly recommend the wagon we have. We use it constantly and pull 2 kids at a time. One of my favorite features is that the side can unzip so you can use it as an impromptu picnic/snack bench!
