I loved hearing that UGGs were back because honestly, I never stopped wearing mine! It’s cold in Boston in the winter, and they’re one of my most-worn winter boots (see my 3 must-have winter boots for women here).
According to UGG, sheepskin is a naturally thermostatic material, meaning that while you’re wearing it, it automatically regulates your body temp throughout the day. “Because of this, UGG sheepskin footwear can be worn all year round.” That said, I haven’t had the best experience with quality lately. The last pair of UGG boots I bought wore through in just 2 years! My old pair lasted maybe 8 years before that happened. So I went hunting for a great UGG lookalike so that I wasn’t dropping $130 on something that might not last.
One of the benefits of the UGG replicas is that they don’t use real fur. Instead, it’s a synthetic fur (which animal lovers might be happier about!). But they’re still super warm! The UGG lookalikes are also machine washable, have memory foam inside, and have a hard sole so you can wear them indoors or out.
Splurge (original UGG): slide slippers (Scuffette II), platform slipper (Koolaburra by UGG Burree- similar to the Tasman UGGs), mini boot
Save (inspired by UGG): slide on slippers, platform slipper, mini boot
I experimented with my last pair of authentic UGGs when I started wearing through the toe box. And I think I finally figured out what to do when you start wearing through UGGs on the toe. I bought these toe box inserts from Amazon and stuck them into the toe box. It was a little harder than I thought it would be because the paper is really sticky and my boots are the tall version. They spread out the pressure from your toes rather than wearing through so fast on that just spot. (You can use them in sneakers and other shoes, too.) So far, so good with these! I think they’re going to add a little longer life to my authentic UGGs that started wearing through so fast.
Have you purchased any UGG lookalikes? I’m curious if you have a favorite I didn’t mention!
