Miamily Ride-On Suitcase Review: Is It Worth It for Kids?

Miamily is a Swiss brand created by parents. (To be honest, some of my favorite products for kids are those made by parents!) I’m always on the hunt for anything that makes traveling with kids less stressful, so when we were getting ready to travel to Europe over the summer, I had to know if it was actually useful or just looked cool on Instagram. After using it on multiple trips now, I have a lot to say: the good, the not-so-great, and who I think this suitcase is truly meant for. Here’s everything you need to know — what I loved, what I didn’t, and whether this Instagram-famous suitcase is actually worth the price.

What Is the Miamily Ride-Along Suitcase?

The Miamily Ride-On Suitcase is a hard-shell carry-on with a built-in child seat on the front. Kids can sit on it comfortably while you pull them through the airport. It’s basically a stroller + suitcase combo for toddlers and older. The Miamily carry on is the same size as standard carry on luggage, just with the seat that you can flip up or down.

How the Ride-On Seat Works

The seat can be secured down (so the Miamily carry on looks like every other piece of luggage) or flipped up to create a seat. There is an optional removable lap belt to keep younger kids secure. Kids can sit facing you or out (depending on how you pull/push the suitcase). We don’t use the optional strap because the kids stay on there pretty securely. (Typically the way we travel is to take a stroller for our 2 year old and use the Miamily carry on with seat for our 5 year old.)

Quick Shop

Before we dive in, here’s where you can check current pricing and color options:

Who Is the Miamily Suitcase Best For?

This suitcase is especially helpful for:

  • Toddlers and preschoolers ages 2–6
  • Families skipping a stroller in the airport
  • Parents traveling solo with kids
  • Kids who get tired easily or might tend to “wander”
  • Kids who can’t walk as fast as their parents would like

Design & Key Features

Durable Hard-Shell Build

The exterior holds up well to bumps, drops, and general airport chaos. I have tried to be gentle with this carry on, just like my other bags, but things happen!

Smooth 4-Wheel System

Glides beautifully on airport tile. Almost too well sometimes- it’s easy to turn the suitcase in a full 360 degree circle without meaning to.

Built-In Child Seat with Belt

The main selling point for us! The seat is sturdy, supportive, and well designed. We don’t use the belt, but it does come with a (to be honest) flimsy optional belt. I don’t truly understand how the belt would keep your child from falling off. The best way to keep them on is to just pull up the handle once they’re on the seat, if you ask me! The company says that the suitcase can handle up to 220 lbs on the seat, so that’s good to know if you have older children.

43-Liter Interior Capacity

Plenty of room for clothing, toys, snacks, and travel essentials. 43 liters might not mean much, but the interior has a nice compression system to hold your clothes in which helps you fit more and still be able to close the suitcase. I was able to fit all of my clothing for our 5-day trip in here on one side (without shoes or toiletries), plus on the other side I put things we would need on the flight: a zip pouch with “just in case” clothes for everyone in the family, raincoats, and some travel toys.

Fits in Most Overhead Bins

We had no issues on domestic flights. It’s carry-on compliant for most airlines. (Amazon has a similar suitcase, but it’s larger than the Miamily and I don’t think would be a good carry on for all airlines. I purchased one from Amazon to check out the differences – I’m going to do a full post comparing ride on suitcases for kids, so look for that soon!)

Adjustable Handle

Great for parents of different heights, or for kids to push because there are different “stops” for the handle when you are extending it. Easy to maneuver one-handed.

Pros: What I Loved About the Miamily Ride-On Suitcase

It replaces the need for a stroller (in the airport).

No more gate-checking a stroller or wrestling it through TSA, unless you have a smaller child who needs one! We used to travel with a double stroller and now only take a single through the airport.

Kids actually want to sit on it.

No bribery required. It feels like a ride for them. Sometimes they even fight about who gets to ride on it! (lol)

Long airport walks are suddenly easy.

Probably one of my top reasons for bringing this every time we travel. Little kids can get tired, and they don’t always have the ability to keep up with longer walks and fast steps.

Storage + toddler transport in one.

Huge bonus when your hands are already full.

It’s built to last.

It’s sturdier than other ride-on suitcases I’ve tried.

Cons: What I Didn’t Love

Not ideal on carpeted floors.

It rolls well on tile but slows significantly on hotel carpet. Not a huge deal but worth noting so you are aware.

Price.

It’s an investment, but the convenience is worth it to us. They’re actually 30% off for Black Friday, so if you’re interested in buying one I’d jump on this discount!

You’ll need your child to hop off before boarding the plane.

The suitcase fits down the aisle of an airplane, but not with a rider on it.

Interior hook closure can get in the way.

On the inside of the suitcase there are 2 hooks that are part of the closure design. They get in the way sometimes when you’re trying to unzip the section of the suitcase. It takes some getting used to- the first time I unzipped that side I banged my finger on the little hook and it hurt. It’s part of the carry on closure, but this is probably something the company can figure out and change!

you can see the latch hooks in this photo

My Real Travel Experience With the Miamily Suitcase

After using it on multiple trips, here’s what stood out to me:

  • My children love riding on it and don’t get tired on long walks from one gate to another, or from the gate to baggage, etc., especially if you’re flying late at night or early in the morning
  • It made TSA and the long walk to our gate significantly easier
  • I had room for days’ worth of clothes
  • It worked perfectly as a regular carry-on when we didn’t use it as a ride on
  • No meltdowns from tired legs!

Is the Miamily Ride-On Suitcase Worth It?

If you travel as a family, don’t want to bring a stroller, have a child who gets tired walking through the airport or has a hard time keeping up…

Yes, it’s absolutely worth it.

It solves a real problem: kids getting tired, antsy, and slow in airports. It also replaces the need for a stroller through the terminal, which is huge if you’re only bringing that stroller to get around the airport.

If you only travel once a year or your child is over age 5 (or is super tall), you may get less long-term use, but the convenience is still incredible.

I recommend checking both, because sometimes one has better pricing or availability.

Final Thoughts

The Miamily Ride-On Suitcase earned a permanent place in our travel routine. It’s fun, practical, and actually reduces stress for us as parents traveling with 3 little kids- something not many kids’ travel products can promise.

If you’ve been debating it, this is one travel purchase I’d confidently say is worth it.
