When Sprout turned four this year, I thought it was the perfect time to try to make a dog birthday cake. (Yes, I pretty much treat my dog like a child.) It was super easy to make, and Sprout and his bff Rowdy seemed to love it.
I used a peanut butter cake (modified from this recipe) with a peanut butter/cream cheese frosting.
Cake:
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon honey
1 egg
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil. Combine ingredients until well-mixed and put into baking dish, patting down into the dish. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes.
Frosting:
1/4 cup peanut butter
4 ounces cream cheese
Combine peanut butter and cream cheese (I used a KitchenAid mixer to do so). Put mix into a sandwich baggie and cut off one of the corners to make your own pastry bag. Once cake is cool, squeeze frosting on top of cake into whatever message you’d like.
Rowdy and Sprout couldn’t wait to try it!
Do you celebrate your pet’s birthday?
