I’ve never been one to pack light, so when I was looking for a new suitcase I knew I needed the lightest bag possible. There are SO many options of carry on suitcases and full size luggage sets out there. I know luggage isn’t handled very lightly all the time, so I wanted something sturdy for sure. The only thing is I pack a lot… so whatever bag I got couldn’t add too much weight on its own. Read on for my comprehensive review of my Quince luggage carry on suitcase.
A while ago I shared a review of Quince clothing, and afterwards the Quince team offered to send me their new luggage to try out, including their lightweight carry on. (In case you’re unfamiliar, Quince is a direct-to-consumer brand. That means they cut out the middleman of having stores or holding inventory, and they ship directly from their warehouses.) I was excited to try out their new carry on because it’s been a while since we upgraded our luggage!

Quince luggage review

At just 6.2 lbs the Quince carry on is the lightest carry on suitcase I’ve ever had. It’s supposed to fit 5-7 outfits, and I definitely put that to the test. This carry on has now traveled with me from local trips to our favorite Cape Cod beaches all the way to Europe and back. We even recently took it on our first cruise, since it holds a lot but can be pushed under a bed when not in use.

At 6.2 lbs this is by far the lightest suitcase I’ve ever owned, but it is sturdy, too. Every time I pack it to the gills I think the zipper is going to pop, but that hasn’t happened yet. (I’m one of those people who packs it so full I have to sit on the suitcase to zip it up!) I have been really impressed with just how much fit inside the carry on size. (When I got my carry on, Quince said you could fit 9-12 outfits in the full size luggage and 5-7 outfits in the carry on version of the 2 piece luggage set.) Typically, I pack my toiletries bag, first aid kit/medicine bag, shoes, and other random items into one side, and all of my clothing goes into the side that has the compression system. It’s kind of like having a compression packing cube built into the suitcase.

Pros and cons of Quince luggage
Since I’ve already shared that I’m an overpacker, there’s one small issue when you stuff this carry on as full as it can get: It makes it a little harder to get the handle up and down. Not drastically so, but enough to mention it. When you’re already stressed about needing to board a flight, any small thing can suddenly feel like a big deal. One huge difference between this carry on and my soft-sided carry on is how the weight seems to be evenly distributed, so I don’t feel like I’m fighting with the bag when I’m rolling it through the airport. I can place my backpack on top and the carry on doesn’t fall over to one side (an issue I’ve had with my older soft sided luggage from a different brand).
One thing I appreciate about this bag is that the interior is good quality. I’ve ordered trendy suitcases in the past from other brands that clearly cheaped out on materials for the interior, but not this one. The stitching and the interior fabric in general has held up well, even after 2 years of frequent use.

FYI: Quince compares their luggage to similar hard shell suitcases by Away, Monos, and Paravel. I don’t have luggage from any of those brands so I can’t do a direct comparison.
Quince luggage after frequent use
We travel at least a few times a year, and the bags I always pull out to take with us are my Quince carry on, one with a child seat on top, and a smaller expandable hard side carry on bag. Oftentimes we’re walking through the airport as two adults with three kids, one of us pushing a stroller and a carry on, and one of us will have 2 carry on sized bags plus a car seat in the other hand. Our luggage just has to be efficient and convenient to use. We have taken this bag onto a variety of airlines as a carry on without any issue, including JetBlue, American Airlines, British Airways, Corsica Air, and probably others I’m forgetting. We’ve taken it onto the plane and haven’t had issues putting it in the overhead compartment (mostly on Airbus A350s, Boeing 737s and Boeing 777s), but we’ve also gate checked it for convenience on our end.
Quince says their luggage is approved by the following airlines (those with a * are ones I’ve personally flown with this carry on in the overhead compartment):
- Air France/KLM
- Alaska Airlines
- American*
- British Airways*
- Delta
- Frontier
- JetBlue*
- Southwest
- United
Are Quince suitcases good?
If you’re looking for a sturdy suitcase that will be easy to take through the airport and onto the plane but don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars, then yes, I think Quince is a great option for luggage.
Note: Since I got my Quince carry on suitcase in 2023, they have come out with a carry on with a front pocket (SO SMART), as well as a version that is expandable. Mine is the original carry on, now called the “small carry on”. Quince sells 5 different sizes of its hard-sided luggage: Compact Carry on (16.2″ H x 14.25″ W x 8.75″ D, holds 2-3 outfits), Small Carry On (22″ H x 14.4″ W x 9.8″ D, holds 5-8 outfits), Expandable Carry On (22.8″ H x 15.6″ W x 10.5″ D, holds 6-10 outfits), Medium Check-In Suitcase (26″ H x 19″ W x 11.7″ D, holds 9-13 outfits), Large Check-In (28.7″ H x 20.9″ W x 13″ D, holds 2 weeks+ of clothing according to Quince).
