The Best Kids’ Books About Fall

I love the fall season, so today I rounded up some really fun kids books about Fall! I have a few books I rotate out every year because they are seasonal, and the kids get so excited when it’s time to take them out. It’s the same idea as rotating toys… they seem to be much more excited when it’s something they haven’t seen in a while!

The Fall books I chose are appropriate for ages baby and up. I added my age recommendation next to each title below. As far as the stories go, they are all themed around autumn. Some are funny, some are touching, and some teach a little about why the fall happens (yay science!). I added some mini reviews below too!

Books About Fall for Kids

All of these books are on my shopping list here, so you can just click once and find all of the titles in one place!

The Leaf Thief

A delightful book perfect for kids who pick up leaves! The story follows a squirrel who has lost a leaf from his favorite tree. It teaches kids about autumn, adapting to change, and the seasons. Best for ages 2-7.

“It’s very clever, and is a nice addition for my fall children’s book collection.” -Kate

Duck & Goose Find a Pumpkin

Duck & Goose look everywhere for a pumpkin-in the apple tree, in the leaf pile, inside a hollow log… simple, well-chosen words and illustrated with uncluttered oil paintings done in autumn colors. Best for ages 2-6.

“Cute but not revolutionary” – Derek

“Simple and easy to read” – Ann

Biscuit Visits the Pumpkin Patch

If you’re familiar with Biscuit books, you know that they’re great for little ones. Simple stories, cute illustrations. Best for babies to early readers.

“A cute book with a fun story and nice illustrations” – Casey

Rascal’s Nut Hunt

Themes of friendship, problem-solving, and teamwork to help Rascal (a raccoon) find his treasured nuts that have gone missing. Rhyming makes this a good choice for early readers who are studying phonemic awareness.

Pete the Cat Falling for Autumn

Little ones familiar with Pete the Cat will appreciate watching him learn about corn mazes, apple picking, and hayrides.

“There is also a valuable lesson towards the end about the importance of getting together with family and friends. This is a super cute book with the holidays approaching!” – Haley

Books About Halloween

How to Catch a Witch

A cute story for Halloween night with ghosts, goblins, and more. STEAM concepts too! If your kids know the “How to Catch a…” series, this will be a great addition. Best for ages 3-7.

Room on the Broom

The same author as The Gruffalo wrote this cute story about a witch and her friends. The friends help her with finding items and then look for a ride on her broom in return. The rhymes are clever and everyone seems to enjoy this story. Best for ages 3-7.

“I love the cadence of the rhymes and the pictures are just so magical. I really enjoy reading this to my 3 year old.” – Lauren

Little Blue Truck’s Halloween

My kids love the Little Blue Truck series! Blue is known for being a good friend to all. This version is a lift-a-flap board book great for little hands. Best for babies and toddlers to age 3.

Construction Site Gets a Fright

Another favorite in our house is the Construction Site series, about 5 construction truck friends. In this rhyming story kids can follow the construction friends as things get a little eerie on the construction site. This is another lift-a-flap book.

Find Spot at the Halloween Party

Who doesn’t love Spot? Great for babies, toddlers (lift-a-flap!), and early readers (simple words).

Books About Thanksgiving

How to Catch a Turkey

Another fun picture book from the “How to Catch a…” series! Best for ages 3-7.

I Am Thankful: A Thanksgiving Book for Kids

Teaching about the spirit of gratitude with rhyming verses. This book shows diverse families celebrating with their own traditions and ways of giving back. Best for ages 3-5.

“A lot of different traditional Thanksgiving activities; flying to visit family, pumpkin patches, walking to see fall leaves, watching the parade, football, cooking and cleaning together, even a long distant call to a parent not present for the holiday. At the end there’s a list of some different Thanksgiving themed kids activities or way to give that kids can do. Very sweet and teaches such great principles while sharing about Thanksgiving” – Sarah

Do you have a favorite fall book you read with your kids? Let me know what titles I’m missing so I can check them out!

Let’s Be Thankful (Paw Patrol)

A nice Paw Patrol themed story that offers a list of people we should be thankful for, including our mayors, doctors and nurses, construction workers, and more. A cute board book for Paw Patrol fans! Best for ages 3-5.
