Living in New England, you get to be an expert on a few things. One of those things? Winter boots.
With little kids, you definitely don’t want to skip the good winter boots and have cold, wet feet on a snowy day. That’s just not fun for anyone! In this post I’m going to share the boots we have loved over the past 6 years for little kids. And we have tried a lot. Big-name brands, cheaper Target snow boots, hand-me-down boots, rainboots that double as snow boots… Which winter boots stood up to the test? Read on to find out!
Let’s start here…
How to Keep Your Feet Warm in the Winter
There are a couple of ground rules we’re going to cover before diving into our kids winter boots review.
First up, you should invest in some wool socks if you’re headed somewhere cold (or freezing). We love Bombas socks for our kids! Cotton socks just won’t do it. Wool wicks away moisture, which leaves you warmer. Trust us on this one.
Next, don’t wear your boots too small. If you have kids jamming their feet into boots that are too small, they’re likely to get colder faster because they can’t move around. By the way, if you’re looking for my favorite 3 boots for women, they’re right here!

Bogs Boot Review
I’ve been buying Bogs since my oldest was just about 2 years old. They’re easy to get on and off, they’re warm, and they’re waterproof. They don’t have the best traction for hardcore playing-in-the-snow days, but they’re a great everyday boot.
- Wonderful 3-season boot
- Easy for kids to get on and off
- Come in baby sizes up to big kids
- Easy for kids to walk in
- Waterproof but because of the pull on handles might let water in if you get into a deep puddle

Kamik Snow Bug Boot Review
These boots are so cozy with the faux fur lining. They’re easy to put on and take off, the closure is quick, and they’re waterproof too!
- Easy closure (hook-and-loop) for little kids
- Lined with faux fur for extra warmth
- Waterproof but because of the type of closure may let water in if you jump in a large puddle
Sorel Snow Commander Boots Review
I’ve had Sorel boots since I was a little girl, so it’s one of the first brands I gravitated towards as a mom. Sorel has a great reputation for making a quality product that is warm in the winter months. These Snow Commander boots are not great if you have a little one with a narrow foot (the toe box is tall). But the boot shaft is tall, keeping snow and water both out.
Baby UGG Bixbee Booties Review
Are baby UGG boots worth it? Good question. I bought my son a pair of UGG Bixbee Booties during his first winter, when he was not yet walking. They’re more like slippers but thought I’d review them here anyway, since they fall into the “winter boots for babies” category.
They’re adorable booties, with a hook and loop closure that keeps them on baby’s feet. But they aren’t tall, so if it’s a super cold day you still need higher socks and something else on top to keep baby warm. But these Bixbees are soft and warm, and they’re easy to keep on a busy baby’s foot!
Baby UGG Jesse Bow II Booties
My daughter had these as a new walker, and they’re absolutely adorable. They aren’t totally waterproof, so I wouldn’t put them at the top of my list for must-have winter boots for toddlers. But they’re super cute, so for special occasions or for an everyday boot, they work just fine. The lining is cozy and soft, and they’re easy to get on and off of a busy toddler’s feet.
Toddler UGG Boots Review
Personally, I love my UGG boots for how warm they are. So when my daughter started wanting to be outdoors more, even on cold days, I got her a pair of UGGs. While they’re water resistant, they aren’t fully waterproof. After some time in the snow, the toes would get wet (yuck!) so I’d still recommend a true snow boot for snow play. But for walking around in the city or if you’re going to be in and out of the car running errands, these are a really great warm boot for keeping toddler toes toasty!
