If you had asked me a few years ago, I would have told you that hiking definitely wasn’t “my thing.”
Sprout, on the other hand, thinks he’s a goat and loves to climb rocks.
I’ve never been an outdoorsy person – I have been camping exactly one time, for 12 hours total. (Does that even count?) But as T and I started spending more time outside on walks with Sprout a few summers ago, I noticed that I was enjoying it more and more. I felt better physically, we were able to have some great conversations, and Sprout got the exercise he needed.
When I was super pregnant, walking was pretty much all I could do for exercise. So we would head to a nearby park and walk in the evenings or on the weekends, pretty much whenever it was nice out and we had an hour to do so!
Now, we typically go on at least one hike a week, mostly on the weekends. Having a baby hasn’t slowed us down too much – one of us will wear her in our Boba (which we LOVE). It’s lightweight, it’s comfortable, and she sleeps so well in it!
I put together a short video from last week’s 4 mile hike, which is a typical weekend hike for us. Check out how much Sprout loves the outdoors – I always say he’s living his best life when we’re out on a walk or hiking!

I just bought some new hiking boots to start doing some minor hikes this spring/summer/fall. I recommend https://www.amazon.com/Family-Friendly-Hikes-Aislinn-Sarnacki/dp/160893585X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520004850&sr=8-1&keywords=aislinn+sarnacki for a book outlining some family friendly hikes in Maine. I think it is right up your alley!
