Finding the perfect home base in New York City is always a balancing act. You want the skyline views and the “city that never sleeps” energy, but when you’re traveling with a full crew (most of them under the age of 10), you also need a bit of breathing room and a quiet place to retreat at the end of the day. After staying there 4 times over the past few years, I’m convinced that the Hyatt Centric Wall Street is the city’s best-kept secret for a luxury-meets-practical family getaway in “the big city” as my kids call it.

Why We Choose the Financial District Over Midtown
While Midtown has the bright lights of Times Square, the Financial District (FiDi) of NYC offers a completely different, more polished pace of life. The streets are wider, the architecture is stunningly historic, and – most importantly – it becomes remarkably peaceful in the evenings and on weekends. (Sometimes you can even find a free street parking spot for the entire weekend, unheard of in Midtown!)
Staying in FiDi means you are steps away from the waterfront at South Street Seaport and the green spaces of Battery Park. It felt less like being a tourist and more like having a very upscale neighborhood pied-Ã -terre. Plus, with nearly every subway line converging at the Fulton Center and the Wall Street stops, getting uptown is actually faster than taking an Uber and navigating the gridlock of Midtown.
Pro Tip: Be sure to check out the local Leo’s Bagel shop in the nearby “Stone Street” area for a quick breakfast before you start your day! My go-to is the bacon egg and cheese on a cinnamon raisin bagel!

Room Tour: What to Expect from a Centric Suite
For those who prefer video format, I put together a YouTube video showing a full room tour of a Centric Suite at the Hyatt Wall Street in NYC, as well as some of our favorite activities in NYC to do with kids! You can watch that video here:
One of the biggest hurdles in NYC is the “shoebox” hotel room. I remember staying in a hotel years ago with just my husband, and you couldn’t open the bathroom door without standing on top of the bed to do so. With a family of five, you need far more space than that. The Hyatt Centric Wall Street defies this tiny-hotel-room stereotype. We typically stay in a suite at this Hyatt because they feel genuinely expansive and they’re relatively affordable.

A few reasons we love their suites:
- Space! At about 600 square feet, these suites are so much larger than the typical hotel room you’ll find in NYC, especially in Midtown. I find that the farther South you go in Manhattan, the bigger the hotel rooms get.
- High Ceilings & Large Windows: The high ceilings make the rooms feel even bigger. And natural light makes a huge difference in the morning.
- Smart Layout: Having a distinct seating area allows us to have a snack/breakfast space right where the mini fridge is located. And the closet in the middle of the room means that the kids’ area is separated a bit from our King size bed.
- Modern Amenities: The walk-in rain showers and BeeKind bath products add that touch of luxury, while the in-room fridge and coffee maker keep things practical for early risers. Downstairs there is always coffee and tea in the mornings, and in the afternoons the staff puts out some fruit and baked goods to snack on.

A few things I don’t love about Hyatt Centric Wall Street in NYC:
If you’re traveling with older kids or non family members, you should know that the shower/tub area is not private from the room. You can see right through the door to whoever is showering/bathing. I feel like that’s an important note!

The location is a dream for families who love to explore on foot. The streets are fairly wide with sidewalks and are stroller friendly. But it’s also close to the subway, so getting uptown is easy.
For a change of pace, especially if it’s a nice day, the NYC Ferry at Wall Street/Pier 11 is just a block or two away. Taking the ferry to Brooklyn or even just doing a loop on the East River is one of the most affordable and scenic ways to see the Statue of Liberty and the skyline without the stress of a crowded tour boat or a 3-hour tour that young kids won’t enjoy.

Final Verdict: Is it Worth the Stay?
If you’re looking for a spot that feels sophisticated but remains incredibly functional for a family, the answer is 100% yes. The Hyatt Centric Wall Street offers that rare combination of high-end design and a location that makes navigating the city surprisingly stress-free, especially when traveling with kids.
