Baby Girl Nursery – Small Space Neutral Nursery

Our baby girl’s pink and gray nursery used to be my closet/office. When we found out we were expecting, though, we decided that would be her room, and we (jk… T didn’t think we needed to set up a nursery right away!) set out to plan a nursery for our baby girl. The room has a sloped ceiling and a sweet set of built-in drawers. There’s a nook that seems odd for an adult’s room, but I kept picturing our daughter playing there under a fort of some kind. (I didn’t take photos of the nook, because it’s currently being used as a storage area for diapers.)

SMALL ROOM PINK AND GRAY NURSERY

I must have searched for hours and hours for baby girl nursery decor, but in the end I went with pieces that just felt right. I knew I wanted a space that was calming, sweet without being too pink, and comfortable. I wanted the nursery to feel bright, too.

I searched forever for the perfect crib, and I love the one we chose. Because I wanted to be able to put the crib against any of the walls, I didn’t want something too high on one side (with a higher sided crib, that wouldn’t be possible against the sloped-ceiling wall).

This rug is one I bought years ago. I fell in love with it after seeing it online, and it was in my closet/office for a few years. Originally, I planned to get a neutral rug, but we had left this on the floor when we started putting the nursery furniture together. When I saw it with the furniture, I ended up loving how it looks with the white crib and beige chair and ottoman, so we left it. (It’s not the perfect size for the room, but I didn’t want to repurchase a rug I already had in a slightly larger size, so it’s staying for now.)

There wasn’t any overhead lighting, so we installed a ceiling light in the room. And the existing light switch (connected to an outlet) was behind the door, so we had that moved to an easier-to-reach spot.

Some other details about this pink and gray nursery that I love? The acrylic bookshelves, which hold some of our favorite books. On the top shelf, you can see Baby Elephant which is a current favorite! There are also some personal things around the room that bring back some great memories: A framed quote my sisters had at my baby shower, a small cedar box and music box from my childhood that I held onto over the years, a picture from one of my sonograms, a framed birth announcement, and tiny Patriots shoes that E wore at four months. Then there are the books we read now that I read as a child: Paddington, Make Way for Ducklings, and Curious George, to name a few.

We still need to add a shelf in the closet and to rearrange things so that the nook becomes a play space rather than a storage space. But overall, this is definitely one of my favorite rooms in the house!
