The Best Brands for Narrow Toddler Shoes

I had SUCH a hard time finding shoes that fit well on my daughter because of how narrow her feet were as a baby. The shoes everyone swore by didn’t work for us. They were usually too wide and would fall off her foot, or they just looked uncomfortable once she started walking. So… Much like my clothing guide for tall thin babies, I’m sharing what worked for us because I had to figure it all out on my own with trial and error! Hopefully this helps you find a great pair of shoes if you have a toddler with really narrow feet.

Dressy toddler shoes

The most narrow ballet flats I could find were actually at Target. They cost $13 and come in a bunch of colors. They have an elastic strap to hold them on. I wouldn’t recommend these for babies who are just starting to walk, because the sole is pretty stiff. But for a toddler who is walking well, they work well, are affordable, and are so cute.

Sneakers

When she was starting to walk, she had a pair of soft soled New Balance crib shoes. As she got older I branched out and tried new brands. The best ones? New Balance and Saucony. For dressier sneakers, I still love Cienta. Cienta is a European brand and works well for narrow feet. (Much how European brands work well for kids who are on the thinner side.) These are great for early walkers, too!

Which sneaker brands didn’t work well for a narrow foot? Cat & Jack, Old Navy, and Gap.

Slippers and Boots

Most of the character slippers and ones from stores like Carter’s were just too wide. The LL Bean slippers worked well because they have such a high “sock” that it held them on.

For boots (because we live in the northeast and it’s cold in the winter!), I liked UGG for her as a toddler. They were easy to put on and kept her toes really warm. For a lighter boot (for a non walker), Zutano booties are great. I still buy UGG boots now because they’re just so cozy. They don’t have great traction on the bottom, if you need something for snowy days. If you need a good winter boot, these are my picks for best winter boots for little kids (and big kids, too).
