The Best Belt Bags (+ A Lululemon Belt Bag Dupe)

In the 1990s everyone had a fanny pack and it was the coolest thing. I won’t lie, I was kind of sad when the trend faded (at the ripe age of 7) because fanny packs are so convenient.

When we went to Disney a few years ago, I bought a fanny pack (also called a “bum bag” in some places, I found out) and it was so nice to have a hands-free way to carry things!

When the Lulu belt bag became a must have, it was really hard to get one – so I went looking for a belt bag dupe. Or, I guess, just a belt bag. I started with a light blue one at Target that is a $15 Lululemon belt bag dupe (for the Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag). Though I don’t know if I’d really call it a “dupe” – it’s a belt bag, but it comes in different colors and has a slightly different shape.

I wear it primarily as a cross body. The version I bought is this cross body bag, which is made without a clip. It cannot be made into a fanny pack aka actual belt bag, and it has to be worn over your shoulder.

Below I’m showing you the Target crossbody bag (blue- $15) vs. the Lululemon Everyday Belt Bag (white- sells for $38) and Lululemon Clean Lines Belt Bag (black – sells for $58).

The Target Belt Bag

The Lululemon belt bag comes in a bunch of colors and is $38. The Target version is $15 and comes in a bunch of colors, too – including bright pink and light blue, but they also have a couple of neutrals. The cream with gold zippers ($15) is probably my favorite. They keep selling out but you can add your email to be notified when they restock. (Target tends to restock things pretty frequently.) Target also has a clear version which is great for stadium events due to their bag rules!

The Amazon Belt Bag

Amazon actually has MANY different versions, but I love the belt bag I bought. I went with just the regular black color, and I use it all the time. I keep my keys, card wallet, and phone in there and just throw it in my diaper bag if I’m going somewhere or I can grab it and run in and out of stores quickly. (Though let’s face it, with kids in tow I’m never doing anything quickly hah!)

What can you fit in a belt bag?

Honestly the belt bag’s size is perfect for bringing my keys, phone, a snack, and a couple other mom things (y’know… diaper, wipes, bandaids, chapstick, hand sanitizer…). And since I drive most places, I keep a tote in my car with any extras I might need anyway, like a change of clothes for each of the kids.

The size is perfect for going to the park, playground, or grocery store. If I’m doing a beach day or a trip to the zoo, I bring my backpack instead.

Other belt bags to consider:

  • Target also carries sling bags which are roomier than a belt bag. Those might be helpful if you need to carry more items and don’t want to take a larger bag.

Thoughts on dupes

I’m not a huge fan of brands copying other brands, but I also don’t love paying more than you need to for something. Target has had a few “inspired by” styles recently, including hard-sided carry on luggage that looks eerily like Away‘s carry on but at a price tag of $89.

What “dupe” have you seen lately that you love? I have another one coming to the blog soon!
