Home Changes with Kohler

You know that feeling when something just feels right? When we bought our house a few years ago, one of the reasons we loved it was because of how it felt. It was the perfect size for us, cozy but not uncomfortable, and it just feels like it’s held a lot of great memories. (There are a ton of lines inside one of the pantry doors where the family who lived here marked their kids’ growth, and I didn’t have the heart the paint over it when I was touching up some of the paint. Those marks they left from what I assume was their last day in this house remind me of how I felt when we moved out of our childhood home.) The feeling of our house is one of the reasons why now we keep talking about whether or not we should move in the near future. We really like our house, so we constantly go back and forth about selling and buying a bigger house or just renovating the one we’re in.

Once we moved in, as “right” as the house still felt, minor things started to bother me: Why was the door in the bathroom closet bigger than the bathroom itself (or so it felt)? Who would put a closet in the dining room? And why can I not fit a pan under the faucet?? Some of these things are still an issue (hello, narrow bathroom), and because we aren’t sure if we want to move soon, we decided to make small changes that will (we hope) make a big impact in our daily lives.

Some of our more recent changes have been more cosmetic than anything – and one of my favorite changes so far has been the new faucet in the kitchen that goes up in an arch instead of straight across, which means I can fit a pan under there (and my husband is Italian, so that’s important). It has made a world of difference, and to think something so small was creating so much annoyance! I couldn’t believe how much of a difference it made (seriously, why didn’t we do that the day we moved in).

We do most of our home projects ourselves, and we’re lucky that there is a Lowe’s a short drive away. The Kohler Cardale Kitchen Faucet is a gorgeous faucet similar to the one we have, and a similar (though less dramatic in its arch) version is the Kohler Elliston Kitchen Faucet. Both have a spray nozzle and come with other features like the Cardale’s ability to save a certain temperature so you can turn it off and back on at the same temp. I really like having one handle as opposed to two temperature knobs, and the Kohler Scratch Shield (TM) resists tarnishing and corrosion, which is a must for anything that is constantly near water.

Changing out a faucet is an easy fix. Now we’re tackling that dining room closet I mentioned. I can’t wait to share the outcome, but pray for me… designing a built-in in an unnaturally large closet in a dining room is not the easiest thing I’ve done this week.
