3 Things You Should Do After Your Wedding

Right after the wedding, you’re tired (like, really tired). You’ve just spent the past few months tied to a list of items that must be done, dinner conversations have revolved around programs and room blocks, and the last thing you want to do is anything that’s on a to do list. That said, there are a few things you really must do right after your wedding to save your sanity.

3 things you need to do right after your wedding

1. Unplug and spend time together.
You’ve spent so much time focusing on this big event, and now it’s time to focus on each other. Unplug from social media, shut off your email, and send all calls to voicemail. Someone recently told me he wasn’t sure he could take more than a week off for his wedding: Believe me, you can. Your wedding will happen once, and you need that time to unwind after what is arguably one of the biggest events of your life!

2. Finish thank you notes.
You’ll spend a good amount of time writing thank you notes the year of your wedding, especially if you have an engagement party, a shower, and then the wedding. Even if you subscribe to the one-year rule, don’t put them off (like I did… oops. Sorry, Mom!). Keep a spreadsheet of your guests, their addresses, the gift that they gave you and any helpful notes so you can write the most heartfelt thank yous.

P.S. Stock up on cute stationery! (I love this simple monogrammed stationery, and it’s super helpful to have a rubber stamp or embosser for your return address if it isn’t already printed on your envelopes.)

3. Decide what to do with your wedding dress.
The longer it hangs on the back of your closet door, the longer it will… hang there. Decide what you want to do with the dress, whether it’s having it preserved and put away, used for decor, or something else.

I found this image years ago on Rhi’s blog. I love that she has used her dress as part of the decor in her home office!

What did you put off after your wedding that you wish you had just done right away?
