Turning 10 is a big deal. Hitting the double digits is such an exciting milestone, and it’s the perfect time to go all out for your child’s big day. My daughter isn’t yet 10, but because I’m always planning ahead, it’s a milestone birthday I’ve thought about a lot lately. And I know that whatever I do for one child, I’ll want to follow as a tradition with my other two!
This age is such a sweet spot. They are officially out of the younger kids phase, but they haven’t quite hit those tricky teen years yet. A 10-year-old girl (or a birthday boy!) usually wants something that feels a bit more grown-up, while still leaving plenty of room for pure, kid-like party fun.
Whether you are working with a tight budget or looking to rent an elaborate event space, here are some of the best birthday party ideas to ensure your child and their best friends have a great time.

At-Home & Budget-Friendly Celebrations
With just a little planning, your own living room or backyard can be the right place to host an unforgettable birthday celebration. If you are looking for inexpensive birthday party ideas, staying home is a budget-friendly option that still allows for a lot of fun.
DIY Spa Day
A spa day is a great idea for smaller groups. Set up stations with face masks, nail polish, and fluffy robes. It feels so luxurious for a little girl wanting a more mature vibe. Shop spa day supplies >>
Backyard Movie Night
Roll out the red carpet! Rent a projector, stream her favorite movie, and lay out blankets. You can serve classic party food like potato chips, popcorn, and let the kids build their own pizzas. If budget is not a concern, hire a pizza truck to come make custom pizzas for the kids.
Glow-in-the-Dark Dance Party
Clear the furniture and host a dance party or a karaoke party. Rent a karaoke machine so they can belt out their favorite songs. Swap standard bulbs for a black light, hand out glow sticks, and watch them have extra fun.
Game Tournament/Field Day Birthday Party
For some friendly competition, set up a rotation of games. It could be video games or board games and card games if you’re doing an indoor party. If it’s a summer birthday, move the party games outdoors for a water balloon toss, outdoor games, or an epic backyard nerf war. Think Field Day with a birthday twist! One of my favorite and most memorable birthday parties was when I turned 6 and my parents did a backyard carnival. We had hay bales you had to hunt through to get candy, backyard games, and even a pony for pony rides!
Venues and Action-Packed Adventures
If you prefer to outsource the mess and let a party host run the show, looking into a local party package is a lifesaver. Many places offer private party rooms or a dedicated private room to gather the party guests.
Escape Room Birthday Party
Booking an escape room is one of the most highly requested 10th birthday party ideas for this age group. It requires teamwork and is a totally fun way to spend the afternoon.
High Energy Laser Tag and Arcade
You can never go wrong with a round of laser tag or giving them a handful of tokens for arcade games. We have a few places near us that host birthday parties and include laser tag and an arcade (though they use cards, not tokens!) and the kids just love it. Depending on how many kids you are bringing, it can actually be cheaper to book a birthday party package, because it usually includes food for the kids and a dedicated party room.
Outdoor Excursions
Head to a local park for a relaxed picnic party, or book a guided horseback riding trail ride. We attended one birthday party recently that was at a local playground. The mom showed up early, grabbed a couple of picnic tables, decorated them, and the kids had the best time running around. No hosting fees, and she had pizza delivered and cupcakes after!
Classic Favorite Birthday Parties
A pool party (you can sometimes use ResortPass to find a local hotel indoor pool to rent for a party!) or renting out a row of seats at the local movie theater are always popular birthday packages. Check your local independent theater too to see if they rent out their smaller rooms for birthday parties.
Creative & Themed Party Ideas
Choosing a party theme based on what your child loves makes decorating a breeze. Creative activities are a fantastic way to keep 10 year olds engaged, and the crafts can double as their party favors!
Crafternoon Birthday Party
Host an art party or a craft party. A popular trend right now is setting up a friendship bracelet making station. It gives them some free time to chat and create. For my daughter’s 7th birthday she requested “a cat themed birthday party with crafts” so I set up a few stations. The kids got to “adopt a cat” (a stuffed animal – they got to pick which one they wanted), decorate a collar for the stuffed animal (I had ribbon with velcro on it and a bunch of glitter glue, gems, etc. out for them to use), and build it a house and a toy! We had such a fun time in the backyard, and then I let them go wild with our bouncy house until it was time for pizza and cake.

Master Builder Party
A lego party is fantastic for a hands-on 10-year-old’s birthday party. You can host building challenges and give out small prizes to the winners. Have the birthday child choose a theme like “things that go” or “pets and their houses” to give the kids some direction.
Mystery & Magic
If your child loves reading, a Harry Potter themed party complete with a neighborhood treasure hunt or an elaborate scavenger hunt is always a huge hit.
Elegant Afternoon Picnic
A sophisticated outdoor garden party with tea (or lemonade!), finger sandwiches, and classic games like croquet is a beautiful way to celebrate your child’s 10th birthday if your little one is looking for a more upscale-feeling party. Set out low tables, put up some decorations, and cover the table in delicious finger sandwiches! (Crafty parents could probably make a low table with a quick trip to the hardware store!)

At the end of the day, the best parties are simply the ones where the birthday girl (or boy!) feels loved and celebrated on their special day. Once you’ve chosen from these fun birthday party ideas and creative birthday party ideas, all that’s left to do is cut the birthday cake, serve the ice cream, and sing happy birthday!
