WSJ Wine Club Review: What I Really Think

I first learned about the WSJ Wine Club from (I think) a flyer in a package I received. The wines looked amazing and the deal they were offering was kind of hard to pass up. WSJ is a well-known news source, and their wine club is linked to top tier producers and wineries from all over the world. They have some of the best quality and top award-winning wines included. And they also get limited edition wines that they include as part of their boxes. So today I’m sharing my experience with the Wall Street Journal Wine Club because… wine not! (Yeah I went there.)

WSJ Wine Club Review

The WSJ Wine Club started in 2008 and on their website it says that they only select less than 2% of the wines they try. WSJ Wine Club has also championed more than 1,000 winemakers, from the smallest vineyard and up. They have wines from red grapes, white grapes, and 125 different grape varieties. The wines have come from 556 different wine regions since 2008!

The first box I received was the “Top 12 Wines You Need to Try” which was a case of 14 bottles (including 2 bonus bottles) plus 2 wine glasses. You choose from a box of reds, a box of whites, or a box of mixed reds and whites. The box came with tasting notes for each bottle, which was super helpful in deciding what to try when and with what. At $59.99 it was a steal of a deal! I went for the box of red varietals.

How the WSJ Wine Club Works

Lots of wine clubs offer many varieties at enticing prices, so let’s talk more about the details… It’s really simple to sign up for the WSJ Wine Club and get the introductory offer that I got. You can cancel anytime, and their customer service is super easy to get in touch with. You can swap out from red wine to white wine. Add newer selections, try new wines, etc. On the WSJ website you can add notes about your favorite bottles, check off which ones are your favorites or “not for me” to keep track for the future.

Discovery Club

The Discovery Club is the first box you receive from WSJ Wine Club. It’s basically your introduction to the wine club. The introductory offer is $59.99 (plus $19.99 shipping fee) for 14 bottles of wine and 2 stemless wine glasses. Among the 14 bottles of wine are many top-rated wines, award-winners, and best-sellers from the WSJ’s many wines.

Every 3 months you receive 12 bottles of wine at a 20% savings over club cases ($169.99 plus $19.99 shipping fee). For every case you get (and pay for), you get points and rewards toward free bottles of wine in future cases.

I contacted customer service after getting a reminder of my next case. I had too many bottles of wine and wanted to skip a case. They were super easy to get in touch with, and it was very easy. You can actually cancel at any time.

Premier Club

The Premier Club is touted as their “luxury wine club,” and club members get top-shelf selections in a case every three months. The case of wine includes 12 bottles of wine. You choose whether you want reds, whites, or a mixed box. The cost of the Premier is $259.99 every three months (or every case, if you decide to stretch out further and not get a case every 3 months). The exact wines are not listed, but it sounds like the Premier level has some exclusives that you wouldn’t get in the Discovery Club. And when you get your email preview of your next case, you can swap out any wines you want to.

Is WSJ Wine easy to cancel?

Yes. I had a bunch of bottles of wine sitting around (I’m the only one in my house who drinks wine, and pretty much only when we entertain or go somewhere, so not frequently!). I decided to cancel for a period of time because I honestly have no where to keep all of the wine. All I had to do was go into the portal and click a couple of buttons, and it was canceled.

Is the WSJ Wine Club Worth it?

I was really impressed with the WSJ Wine Club, to be honest. The packaging was done really well, the wines varied from a big, rich red to a medium-bodied California red, and I was able to easily skip my next case because I had too much wine to go through.

I’d recommend joining the wine club if you host a lot at home or frequently go to dinner parties. It would also be great to have around the holidays!

I wish you could choose your delivery date, and I always prefer to get free shipping on purchases, but otherwise this seems like a great choice for a wine club!
